The stems have gone woody at the base, thick and gnarled like tiny tree trunks, but the tips are still soft with new growth. Needle-like leaves, dark green on top, silvery underneath. The whole plant looks like it's been here longer than the greenhouse itself.\n\n        \"Brush your hand across it,\" he says.\n\n        You do. The needles are stiff but not sharp, and when you pull your hand back, the scent is already there. Pine and camphor and something almost medicinal, coating your fingers, rising into your nose, and then --\n\n        Something shifts. A kitchen. Not this one. Somewhere older. Someone cooking. The smell of bread and this exact scent, rosemary, and a voice you haven't thought about in years.\n\n        Theo watches your face change. He nods, slow.\n\n        \"There it is,\" he says quietly. \"Every time. I hand someone a rosemary sprig and they go somewhere else. Their grandmother's house. A meal they ate in a country they left. A person.\" He breaks off a small branch and holds it under his own nose, closing his eyes for a moment. \"The Greeks knew. They wore it at funerals and at weddings. They wove it into students' hair before exams. Rosemary for remembrance. It wasn't poetry. It was chemistry.\"\n\n        He places the sprig in your hand. \"Scent is the fastest route to memory. Faster than a photograph. Faster than a song. It bypasses everything -- logic, time, distance -- and puts you back in the room.\"\n\n        You stand there holding a twig of rosemary and feeling the ghost of a kitchen that might not even exist anymore.
